Home Improvement Amy LattaAt Floor Coverings International of Columbia West, we love bringing you creative insight and perspectives from bloggers who are kind enough to share their wisdom and how they got started. Today we have an interview with Claudia, home improvement designer and longtime blogger at One Artsy Mama.

1. Please tell us a little about yourself.

I’m a mama and an artist who is passionate about inspiring my online community by sharing honest inspiration for everyday life.  On my blog, you can find craft and home decor projects that are Honestly Doable, kids’ projects that are Honestly Teachable, style tips and DIY jewelry that are Honestly Wearable, and much more!  I’m happiest when crafting, and when not covered in paint, you can find me working on professional design collaborations. Aside from posting on One Artsy Mama, I write for the Craftsy Jewelry blog, am a Brand Campaign Coordinator for Looksi Square, a perfectionist, a recovering English teacher, a professional ballroom dancer, and a Amy 1Starbucks addict.

2. Why did you decide to start a blog? What do you enjoy about blogging?

I started One Artsy Mama back in March of 2011 after searching online for a St. Patrick’s Day craft idea to do with my then two-year-old son. I came across a blog run by an art teacher who had countless fun projects for kids and was incredibly inspired. I’ve been an artist and crafter all my life, so it made me think to myself, “I could do that! I could put my ideas out there to inspire other people too!” My favorite thing about blogging is the idea that I’m able to help people who don’t feel particularly creative or skilled to see that they can actually make things {either themselves, with their kids, or both} they can be proud of. I love showing that crafting is “honestly doable” and breaking things down step by step so they’re not intimidating for the average person. It’s so exciting when readers send me photos of things they have created after visiting my site! I also love the opportunity blogging gives me to be a stay at home mom while contributing to our family’s finances.

3. How would you describe your design style?

My style is a mixture of coastal {I love the beach, so I have lots of beach-inspired decor} and casual chic. I love geometric patterns and have a weakness for the colors teal, grey, and yellow.

4. Where do you find most of inspiration?

I’m a very visual person, so much of my inspiration comes from things I see. Not so much that I see something and then attempt to copy it, but the color or the pattern or something about the design appeals to me and I start thinking about how I can put my own unique spin on it. Sometimes I see things in stores, on websites, blogs, Pinterest, or even others’ homes that turn into project inspiration for me.

Amy 35. Tell us about a recent project you’re proud of.

About a month ago, I totally re-did the living room in our new house. I got light and airy curtains, painted the coffee table and end tables with Krylon Chalky Finish spray and then stenciled them, and I created my first gallery wall! Most recently, I created a fun sitting area on our deck with those coastal colors and some fun outdoor pillows inspired from Shutterfly. Now it just needs to stop raining so I can sit out there and enjoy it!

You can find Amy on her blog, where you can check out her projects, at One Artsy Mama.
